Richard E. Farmer, Ed.D. Brings Strong Higher Education Management Skills and Experience to Boston Area

BOSTON (March 2, 2010) – Gibbs College of Boston has named Richard E. Farmer, Ed.D. president of the Boston, Massachusetts campus. He has more than 35 years of higher education management experience and has been on the faculty of several northeastern colleges.

Farmer will oversee the day-to-day campus operations, admissions and recruitment, while ensuring a student-centered learning environment. He will work with faculty to develop new programs and foster excellence among students and staff, and help introduce two new programs – Medical Assisting and Health Information Management – which complement the existing extensive programs offered by Gibbs College of Boston.

"We are fortunate to have someone with Dr. Farmer’s extensive higher education management experience heading up our Boston campus," stated Tom O’Donnell, vice president, Start Up Division, Career Education Corporation. "We believe Dr. Farmer will provide exceptional leadership and support for the students and faculty of Gibbs College of Boston, further building an atmosphere for success."

Among his many achievements, Farmer previously served as Divisional Vice President for Academic Affairs for the Division of Gibbs Colleges and Schools throughout the Northeast Corridor of the United States. He is a graduate of St. Anselm College in Manchester, New Hampshire. He also has a Master of Science in Criminal Justice from the University of New Haven and Doctor of Education in Humanistic Studies and Psychology from Boston University.

"I am excited to begin this new chapter in the history of Gibbs College of Boston," said Farmer. "Students come to Gibbs full of potential and ambition, and I will work with the faculty to nurture them and their academic pursuit as they work toward their careers in the healthcare industry."
